I was on the Nexplanon birth control for 3 years. I recently had it removed….

I had sex with my boyfriend the day after I had it removed and he did cum inside of me.  Is it still possible I could get pregnant? A week later we did have sex again.

It is important to know that as soon as the Nexplanon is removed, pregnancy is possible.  It is also recommended to refrain from any unprotected vaginal intercourse for at least 5 days prior to the removal of the Nexplanon.  This is because sperm can live in the vagina for 5 days.  So if unprotected sex occurs during this time, pregnancy can be possible.

There would be a risk of pregnancy in this situation.  Emergency Contraception is an option which can be taken up to 5 days after the sexual contact. Emergency Contraception works by delaying ovulation – the process when the ovaries release an egg – if ovulation has not already occurred.

It would be a good idea to consider another form of birth control, if the Nexplanon wasn’t for you.  Remember, condoms also help reduce the risk of pregnancy and STIs.
