I’m 13 and I haven’t had my period in 4 months. I did basketball the last 2 months and I don’t know if that affected me…

…I’m super sure I’ve had my first period already and I didn’t have sex.

Menstruation can be tricky during adolescence!  Some females have regular periods from the start. Others have irregular periods for a few years while their bodies “figure it out.”  If you’ve only had a few periods so far, your body may still be adjusting to the hormonal changes that come with puberty.

There are lots of other reasons a female can miss a period. Some do not ovulate every month even in adulthood, so occasionally they will experience light bleeding or no bleeding at all. Recent changes in weight, diet, stress level, or exercise, as you suggested, can also affect when and if a female has her period.

If you’re concerned about your period, make an appointment at Teen Clinic.  Our medical professionals will make sure you’re healthy and help you learn more about your body!
