I stopped taking my Depo injections. Is there a non-hormonal method me and my partner can use?

There are several non-hormonal methods that are available to someone who doesn’t want to be on a hormonal method of birth control.

Some of the easiest and least expensive methods to use and find are known as barrier methods. Barrier methods can include male/external condoms, female/internal condoms, and dental dams. External condoms and Internal condoms can help reduce your risk of having an unplanned pregnancy and/or having STI transmission occur. Both types of condoms can be up to 98% effective, but this all depends on how well you are using them. Dental dams are a great barrier too, but are only used to reduce the risk of STIs.

You also have another option that could potentially be more long term and offer less room for human error. This method is known as the Paragard IUD. The Paragard IUD is an intrauterine device that is made of medical grade copper and plastic. The copper on the IUD acts as a natural spermicide to help reduce your chances of having a pregnancy happen by up to 99%.

Teen Clinic offers several different birth control methods; some of which are non-hormonal. If you are interested in starting another method, give us a call at 303-442-5160 to make an appointment!
