If I had unprotected sex 5 days after having Nexplanon inserted could I have gotten pregnant?

The Nexplanon is a single matchstick-sized rod that is placed underneath the skin in your upper arm. A nurse or doctor inserts the rod. Once inserted, the rod releases hormones gradually for up to three years.

After someone has the Nexplanon for 1 week, Nexplanon protects against pregnancy up to 99% for 3 years, even if ejaculation in the vagina occurs.

If unprotected sex occurred before that first week, there is a risk of pregnancy. Emergency contraception is an option, which can be taken up to 5 days. The only way someone can know if they are pregnant is to take a test at least 14 days after their most recent sexual contact.

The Nexplanon does not reduce the risk of STIs, only condoms/dental dams can do this!
