I’m planning on getting on birth control…..

…I want to get on the shot, but I don’t have insurance and want to know what the cost might be, as well how will it affect my body ?

Great question!

Lets talk a little bit about the Depo Shot!

The Depo Shot is a hormonal form of birth control, it reduces the risk of pregnancy  up to 99% for 3 months. But in order for the Depo Shot to consistently be effective, the person getting it needs to get the shot every 3 months.

It is also important to know that when someone starts a new hormonal method of birth control (like the Depo shot), it takes 1 week for the hormones to be integrated enough into the body to start preventing pregnancy. A backup method (like condoms or practicing abstinence) should be used during that week.

It is hard to say how the Depo Shot will specifically affect your body because everybody and everyone’s health history is different. It is a good idea to make an appointment to talk to a medical professional before starting a form of birth control for the first time.  They can help assess what form of birth control will be the best for you.
