Remember, when someone starts a new hormonal method of birth control (like the Nexplanon) they need to use a back up method (like condoms or practicing abstinence) for one week before that method will be effective. After that one week, someone with a Nexplanon is 99% protected against pregnancy for up to 3 years.
If you had sex before that 1 week and were not using a condom. There is a chance of pregnancy.
If you do not want pregnancy to occur, you could take an Emergency Contraception. You can take Emergency Contraception up to 5 days after having sex. It is more effective the sooner you take it.
Remember, the only way you can know for sure though if you’re pregnant is to take a pregnancy test 14 days after your most recent sexual contact. At that time, you will get an accurate result.
Teen Clinic offers pregnancy tests for free or at a low-cost. You can call us at 303-442-5160 to make an appointment to get a pregnancy test.
