My Depo injection is due to run out today, but I couldn’t get an appointment to have the shot today…

…What happens if I don’t have the injection exactly 12 weeks after the first?

The Depo shot is designed to be given once every 12 weeks. However, there is a little bit of wiggle room if that person isn’t able to make that work!

Although Depo is recommended at every 12 weeks, it can actually be given as early as 11 weeks, or as late as 15 weeks without negatively impacting the effectiveness.  Even if you can’t get in for your next injection at exactly 12 weeks, you have up to 15 weeks before the method is no longer effective. Regardless, still try to get in for your next injection as close to 12 weeks as possible.
